A boy and his dog - my own family memories

In recent years, I’ve found myself taking pretty much all of my personal photos on my phone. I no longer take my camera to the park when I’m catching up with friends - my camera is packed away in a bag with a few other lenses, spare batteries, memory cards etc (that now weighs about 8kg) for when I need to head off to a paid shoot… My phone, however, is always on me. It’s not heavy and I don’t have to think, change settings or post-process images to a professional standard. So that’s what I use.

I still get excited about gorgeous light and never ever do I regret when I’ve taken ‘proper’ personal photos, but for some reason, in the busy day-to-day life, it’s become a chore and can feel like work… So my goal for this month is to take more photos ‘on my big camera’ of my personal life.

That being said, meet Rohan (8) and Floki (1) - my babies!! I dragged them down to the park at sunset so it was still more ‘work-like’ than a casual snap around the house but hey, at least they’re my own!

Rohan is intuitive, boisterous, inquisitive, confident and extremely independent. There are pros and cons to that at 8 years old, let me tell you! Floki, named after the crazy boat builder in ‘Vikings’, is our real life teddy bear. Getting a Golden Retriever was the best decision we’ve ever made - he has such an awesome doggie personality! Goofy, fun, intelligent and cuddly! He also likes to dig and chew but hey, he is still a pup! And just look at my two boys together! My heart melts! And I am SO glad I went out and captured these moments for myself!
